Noni Cinch Bag:This felted bag is one of Noni Designs best selling patterns. You can make your version in one of three sizes. Visit River Wools to see a store model of the medium size. If you have never felted, this will be a fun skill to learn. If you just like the bag, enjoy making it with others. Learn to Crochet: You can learn to crochet! This fun and easy craft produces beautiful blankets, accessories, outerwear, baby items and more. You will learn how to slip stitch, chain, single crochet, double crochet, how to start and finish off your work, simple shaping, how to read crochet instructions, and how to make and measure a gauge swatch. We will also help you select materials and get you started on your first project. This class is suitable for those with no previous needle work experience. This 2 session class taught by Lana. Cost is $35 plus materials.

Learn to Knit: Knitting produces beautiful fabric which allows you to create fun scarves, beautiful sweaters, afghans, mittens, baby items, socks, home decorations and more. You will learn how to knit, purl, cast on, bind-off, how to read knitting instructions, and how to measure gauge. We will talk about fiber choice. You will pick the color of yarn you want for your first project and start the project in class. This class is suitable for those with no previous needlework experience. This is a 3-session class taught by Martha. Cost is $35 plus materials.

Advanced Rigid Heddle Log Cabin Designs: Designed for those already familiar with rigid heddle weaving. Learn to thread the loom and weave a log cabin design. Participants should be proficient in basic threading and weaving on a rigid heddle loom and need to bring their own loom. Taught by John, the workshop fee is $50 plus materials.

Socks, Socks, Socks: Want to knit socks? It is great fun! This basic class will cover ribbings, turning the heel, shaping the heel and how to finish and graft the toe. Must have some experience knitting in the round (circular knitting). You will knit a basic sock to fit the size foot you choose. This is a 2 session class taught Dara. Class fee is $30 plus materials.

Key to Warmth Cowl: Kelly J. Knits created this slip-stitch cowl with yarn shops and their customers in mind. If you've been a bit wary of two color knitting, you will love this slip stitch pattern. Using only one color per row, you end up with a distinct color pattern. Experience knitting in the round is preferred. This two session class is taught by Martha. The class fee is $25.00 plus materials.

Intarsia Hat: Intarsia knitting is the technique of knitting a block of color surrounded by another color. A fun and useful skill which can easily be learned. Dara has selected a child's hat designed by Kate Oates to get you started. Because the hat is small and you will do the brim before the class starts, you can learn this skill in one session. SIMPLE HOMEWORK REQUIRED. So, after you sign-up for the class, come by and get your supplies to be ready to go. Class fee $25 plus materials. The suggested yarn is Simplicity and the colors available are very nice.

Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving: Learn the basics of weaving with a Rigid Heddle Loom in this workshop designed for beginners. Learn to measure warp threads, dress the loom and weave a beautiful scarf in a day long workshop. Price for class includes instruction, hand outs and the use of the looms and tools. Yarns will be extra. (If you have your own Rigid Heddle Loom that you can bring to the workshop, PLEASE let us know when you sign up!) John Salamone is the instructor and will bring sample scarves to help you make your own yarn choices. This workshop is very fun and full of creative energy as everyone has the opportunity to create a scarf that reflects their own personality, and students can watch other types of scarves come to life besides their own! The fee is $50 plus materials.

Magic Loop Knitting: There are several satisfying methods for knitting in the round. One of the popular methods is the Magic Loop. Using a long cabled circular needle, you can knit virtually anything that can be knitted in the round. This method is great for sock, gloves and mittens. It also comes in very handy when you might usually use double points but don't have any nearby. Dara has chosen a simple gauntlet(fingerless glove) pattern to teach you this technique. The class fee is $25 plus materials.

Moss Fern Crochet Wrap: Crochet a lovely wrap first seen in Interweave Crochet, equally beautiful in a number of yarns. If you can single and double crochet you can make this wrap. You will also gain valuable experience in reading a crochet pattern. Lana has loaned us her sample garment, so stop by the store. The fee for this two session class is $25 plus materials.

Portuguese Knitting: A technique class, this method of knitting requires less hand movement, resulting in great tension and ease of knitting and purling. Our friend Andrea Wong has popularized this method of knitting in the US and we will use her new book in this class. Jennifer learned from Andrea and will introduce you to the basics in this 3 hour class. Class fee - $20 (includes one knitting pin). You will need to purchase Andrea's book and will receive a 15% book discount as a class registrant.

Brush Up on Rigid Heddle Weaving: Have you learned to weave on a rigid heddle loom, but gotten out of practice? Have you been rigid heddle weaving for awhile, but would like to have your basic warping skills checked out? Are you still struggling with getting the weft consistency you want? Please bring your own rigid heddle loom. John has designed this 2 hour workshop to help you with these issues.

Adventurous Weaving: In this half-day workshop, Zann Carter will share Saori-inspired free-style weaving techniques. Enliven your weaving with inlay experiments, 2- and 3-color clasped weft, and a philosophy of playfulness, serendipity and the joy of self-expression through color and texture. The skill level for this workshop is intermediate and participants must arrive ready to weave with a warped rigid heddle loom. Materials for warp will be supplied upon registration. Weft materials will be supplied the day of the workshop. The fee is $50 and includes materials.

Triangle Loom Workshop Learn to weave on this inventive but simple loom. In the first class, Zann will teach the "continuous weave" technique in which the warp is created as you weave. Small student looms will be provided for the day's instruction. One of the great features of small loom weaving is the portability of your work-in-progress and the creative possibilities of working with multiple colors and textures in the same piece. This 3 hour class is $35 plus materials.

More Weaving at River Wools:
River Wools is now offering instruction on Four Harness Looms. We hope to expand weaving opportunities and products to meet the needs of our customers. (Note: A Loom is provided for your use.)
Weaving Option One:
Learn to weave a beautiful chenille scarf on the in-store loom at River Wools. The loom will be pre-dressed for you in your choice of colors and you can come in for a 3-4 hour lesson with John to learn how to use the loom, refill bobbins and finish your scarf. You then have a week to complete weaving the scarf at your convenience during store hours. Individual lesson time to be set after you pay for the class. Fee: $60.00 Includes instruction, all tools and one week loom rental.
Weaving Option Two:
Learning the Basics. Have a 6 hour lesson with John to learn how to measure warp threads, dress the loom, and begin weaving. You will then have a week to complete weaving your scarf at your convenience during store hours. Individual lesson time to be set after you pay for class. Fee: $85:00 includes instruction, all tools and one week loom rental.
Weaving Option Three:
Weave away! If you already know how to dress a loom, but do not have access to one at this time, and you do not need assistance with an instructor, you can rent the loom for a week to come in and work on a project of your own during store hours. This option is great for anyone who has finished option two and would like to weave a few more projects before purchasing a loom. Fee: $25.
Preregistration required for all weaving options at River Wools is required. You pick from available weeks, pay the fee and schedule any lessons with John. We suggest that you start your week on either Thursday or Saturday, as John is usually available for lessons on those days. Other days available upon special request.
